or those who require complete assisted living care on an ongoing basis, MRE offers sixteen "affordable" state-certified assisted living units at its Winter Valley site. Assisted living takes a step beyond the menu of service options offered to other MRE residents, allowing frail residents whose health is stable to remain independent and live comfortably, outside a nursing home setting.
Assisted living provides for daily help with bathing and dressing, if needed; assistance and reminders for taking daily prescription medicines; weekly housekeeping, including changing bed linens; optional laundry service; escort service to and from meals and activities, if needed; one or two meals a day in a comfortable dining room, and optional in-room service of a third meal, if needed.
To accommodate this program, MRE has undertaken a major renovation, constructing a common dining room and lounge area in a courtyard space which previously linked four separate buildings. Construction financing was provided by a grant from the federal government (Department of Housing and Urban Development). MRE was one of only 13 organizations, nationwide, to receive financing through a program which was the first of its kind ever offered for this type of conversion project. MRE is selection for one of these grants reflects government recognition of its leading role in offering innovative and effective programming in creating affordable housing opportunities for seniors.
Assisted Living at Winter Valley is an option for anyone already living at Winter Valley, Unquity House, Fuller Village, South Boston,or the greater community, to move into a supportive and affordable environment without moving far away.
To ensure that the program will be affordable for all who choose or need it, monthly rent is set at 30 percent of the resident's adjusted gross income, with added an fee for services provided.
